New Driver License Requirements
New Laws > New Driver License Requirements

FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF “REAL ID” BEGINS:
The Federal REAL ID Act of 2005 sets new standards for the issuance of driver licenses and identification cards. This is a nationwide initiative effort to improve the integrity and security of State-issued driver licenses and identification cards that will be fully implemented in Florida starting January 1, 2010.
Florida is leading the nation in an effort to provide our residents with a more secure identification document.

Floridians looking to renew a driver license are allowed to do so by a convenience method (Internet or mail) up to one time. The one-time online convenience pertains only to renewals. Address changes and replacements are not limited and may be conducted online.

Following this convenience option, your next renewal must be in a driver license or tax collector office, at which time you will be asked to provide required documentation.
